Cowgirl boots are an essential accessory for ladies that like to wear the Western look.  Even those that aren’t real cowgirls can still cultivate a stylish look with the right boots.

In frontier times, the women in the household often had to work alongside the men because the family could not afford to hire extra help.  Though not as well documented as the history of cowboys, many sources suggest that women performed many of the same tasks.   Cowboy boots for women are usually made from leather and have a slight heel.   This prevents the foot from slipping through the stirrup.  Early cowgirls, however, rode sidesaddle because the alternative was viewed as indecent.   This meant that most early cowgirl boots did not have the same heel as the cowboy boots–sidesaddle boots have only a slight heel.

These days, cowboy boots for women do often feature a heel, though you can also purchase boots without a large heel.   Some heels–such as stiletto style heels–are there more for style than for horse riding practicality.  Cowgirl boots come in a wide variety of styles and colors, but the most popular ones are black or brown leather with a design that has been branded into the leather.   Depending on your preference, you can purchase cowgirl boots that just cover the ankle, come up to mid-calf, or all the way up to the knee.

You don’t need to be a Cowgirl to wear the Western trend.   Cowgirl boots are not only worn by cowgirls and lovers of Country music, but they are also worn by celebrities, models, and fashionistas everywhere. Today’s cowboy boots for women have morphed themselves into much admired and desired footwear that can take you to the rodeo, the runway, or the city streets in fashion.

Jeans are probably the best option when wearing cowgirl boots.   If you enjoy wearing skinny jeans, you can easily tuck the jeans into the boots.  Otherwise, you’ll want to wear boot cut or flare jeans, which allow you to wear the boot under the jeans.  A jean skirt also goes well with cowgirl boots, whether it’s a mini-skirt or a longer skirt.  Don’t feel as though you have to wear a Western style shirt and cowgirl hat along with your boots.   The boots can work with a variety of styles and the shirt that you wear should be based on your favorite style.    In fact, unless you’re going to a rodeo, a full Western outfit may be overdoing it.

You don’t have to limit yourself to wearing your cowgirl boots with jeans, however. There are many other types of clothing that work well with boots.   For example, you could pair them with a light summery dress or with leggings. They’ll also look great if you wear them with a short skirt and tights.

When wearing cowgirl boots, be sure that the rest of your outfit is simple and understated.   This allows the boots to be the main focal point of your outfit.  If you wear too many loud pieces of clothing, things will clash.

Whatever style of cowgirl boots you decide to wear, you’re sure to make a fashion statement in the latest cowgirl boots.   Here’s a video of some celebrities wearing cowgirl boots for some inspiration!

When trying on Western boots, make sure that the boot fits snug, but not too tight. in the instep.  Once you’ve found a great fitting pair of cowboy boots, be aware that the leather used in cowgirl boots is hard and stiff.   This is great because it means that your boots will last a long time, but it can also make for sore feet and blisters the first time that you wear them.   Break in your boots before you set out for a night on the town.   Place duct tape on the back of your ankles (where blisters are likely to form) and start by wearing the boots for short periods of time.   After awhile, you’ll have no problem wearing the boots all day.
